What’s the Status on the Croatan Public Beach Replenishment/Restoration Project?

The ebb and flow of waves hitting the shoreline happens to all beaches, but those living in the area feel as though the waves are coming up far too close to their homes. The city has moved approximately 3,000 cubic yards of sand - adding it to the toe of the sand dunes that have been eroded, in order to help minimize any sort of residential damage.

In addition, the city plans to work on a larger beach replenishment/restoration project wherein they’ll add approximately 130 cubic yards of sand back to the beach. They are currently waiting on permits, which are expected to be obtained this summer or fall. Once this project is complete, residents and those looking to move to the area will be able to have greater peace of mind.
