What’s the History Behind Chesopeian Colony, Virginia Beach?

F. Wayne McLeskey began developing Chesopeian Colony back in 1957. When he initially purchased the property, there were only four existing homes – one of which he bought and lived in. The area was a pine-tree shaped peninsula on the Lynnhaven River right near Great Neck. It was a great spot for a neighborhood to be created – quiet and surrounded with beautiful tall trees.

Before becoming Chesopeian Colony as we know it, the peninsula was known by cartographers as West Point. The name came from the initial landowner, John William Casper West, and can still be found on some maps. Today, Chesopeian Colony lies on approximately 150 acres of dry land – containing around 250 homes on various residential lots.
